Newborn Pictures Kansas City

Baby Eliza and her Mama!

Sweet Eliza and her gorgeous Mama came into the studio for a beautiful Newborn photography session. Eliza was 3 weeks old which is on the “older” end of babies for a newborn session, but she did amazing and I am so glad I got to meet her!

My portrait studio is located in Independence, Missouri inside of the Epic Sports Lodge. I know it seems like a strange place for a picture studio, but the room is just perfect for newborn sessions. It’s also great for baby milestone photography and any sort of studio work.

If you are expecting a baby and need maternity or newborn pictures, please CONTACT me. I’d love to talk with you about your ideas and vision for your images.

You can also visit my Maternity Photography page HERE. For more information about Newborn Photography, click HERE. Each of those pages will also lead you to the Galleries for each of those topics. If you love my work, be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram!

Choosing a Photographer

Newborn photography is an art that requires many hours of learning and practice. Not only does your photographer need to know how to safely handle and pose babies, we need to know what it takes to produce a stunning image. Lighting and angles are so important. Camera settings and even the lens that we’re using for that specific shot. Be sure to choose a photographer that you know is experienced and can provide an extensive portfolio of examples. Even if the investment is a little more, it’s so worth it to have quality images and know your baby is in good hands.

Some poses (like the frog pose) can be dangerous to baby if it’s not done correctly, because babies cannot support themselves. Frog pose should be done as a composite where baby is supported the entire time. Which leads me to the next topic of editing.

Editing newborn images is a whole other beast! Baby’s skin can vary sooooo much. From red to yellow to gray. Knowing what settings to use in camera and then adjusting while editing to give babies a perfect creamy skin. And blemishes!! So many blemishes. You would think that a brand new baby would have perfect, soft flawless skin. And while yes, some babies do have gorgeous skin, the majority of them won’t. When I edit newborn pictures, I take care to make their skin look just about perfect yet realistic.
